Product review: Montagne Jeunesse Red Earth Clay Spa Masque

We laughed so hard.

This masque is not at all what I expected, but it turned out being very awesome. Prepare yourself for some ridiculous pictures, most of them taken by my three-year-old holding the camera remote.

First of all, this company Montagne Jeunesse seems really fun. This little disclosure about not testing on animals is great, I like a non-serious blurb and a product which is animal friendly.

So first you have to wash your face, so I put the photo taking on hold until I did that. I'm wearing another product which came in my Influenster Violet Voxbox called a Goody Athletique Headband which I will review at a later date.

Okay, so look at this thing. I thought it was going to be a cream but it was an actual masque. I put it on right in the den, no mess. And then hilarity ensued.

It smelled amazing and looked idiotic and the whole house was filled with laughter. The dogs were quite curious and wanted to lick it. The baby was very confused. Dylan, Sean, and I just laughed and laughed. I texted a picture to my BFF in England and posted another on Instagram. Apparently I have no shame.

After I put on the masque, my face felt pretty great. The instructions said to wait 10-15 minutes and the masque didn't feel at all intrusive, although it was hard to smile. It smelled great and felt like cool plaster. Unlike the way your scalp feels when you dye your hair, the masque didn't burn.

For those few minutes I went about my motherly duties; feeding the baby, getting everyone something to drink, laughing some more with my husband at how much I resembled a horror film character. Dylan was chasing one of the dogs and wasn't listening so I put him in a time out and I nearly peed my pants having to put him on that chair wearing that masque. There was no point of trying to be serious.

And then it was time to take off the masque.

And then I rinsed my face. And my skin feels so nice! Really soft.

So I give this product an A- because it was a really fun, really easy product that made my skin feel great while smelling wonderful and making us all laugh.

I'm back online!

My new computer charger FINALLY came in the mail today so I am back up and running with a spectacular working computer. It's a good thing, too, because my camera was so filled with photos it was about to burst. So let's catch up.

On Tuesday we played with friends. And Bernadette finally brought over that giant art she made for Kate before Kate was born. It's awesome, and so so huge. We'll have to hang it somewhere where it is not likely to fall on Kate's head.

On Wednesday we had Spaghettios, which have zero nutrition value whatsoever but I loved them as a kid. My aunt Sandy used to make them for us all the time. That and macaroni and cheese. Anyway, Dylan and Kate loved them, too.

I also found yet another box of goodies from Influenster in our mailbox!! We had fun trying out some of the products. Will post more on that later.

Sean left for a business trip on Thursday morning before we woke up and since it was quite foggy and rainy here we spent some of the morning at Home Depot--Dylan's favorite store--and playing indoors.

Here's our view on the left--there's actually a building right behind that tree but the fog was so thick that everything turned white--and the view from Sean's tropical hotel room on the right. But I'm not bitter.

Our playroom sure gets a lot of use.

And on Friday my new ERGObaby arrived!!!

DSC_6910

I've been dying to get this carrier since Dylan was a baby and finally after trying a half dozen other carriers I decided it was worth biting the bullet and spending the money to get a carrier that we would get a lot of use out of and one that would actually be comfortable. Kate loves it a little too much and hasn't wanted to be put down since it arrived. Last night was also our visit with Santa at Dylan's school. I'll post those pictures another time.

We picked up Sean at the airport this morning and now I'm hoping not to move for the rest of the weekend. I could use a few days worth of sleep as I'm not feeling my best. Maybe an afternoon of Monster's University, popcorn, and cocoa.

Kate seems on board with that idea. We are all so glad to have Daddy back home with us.

An interview with Dylan and Kate and almost famous

Today the kids are vlogging.

*

In awesome news, I just sort of became famous...for a few hours anyway.

I've been doing product reviews for a company called Influenster and today they featured one of my blogs on their Facebook page!

influenster

Can you see that small picture in the About section? That's a thumbnail of my best friend Sarah. On a Facebook page with 83,885 followers. And her photo is there because I blogged about my new favorite hair elastic and how not to wear hair elastics on your wrists for photo shoots. And Influenster posted this:

And then they linked to my product review!

So I'm feeling a little famous. If you're here from Influenster, welcome! I hope you get lots of free products to try, too!

Product Review: Dr. Scholl's For Her High Heel Insoles

I was excited to receive my Influenster Sunkissed Voxbox filled with beauty products but when I saw that I was now the proud owner of Dr. Scholl's For Her High Heel Insoles, I wondered, Do I even own a pair of heels? And with that opening sentence you fine readers are now in on a little secret: I am definitely not much of a lady. I like feeling pretty and all that jazz, but I need to be comfortable at the same time. Comfortable in my skin, comfortable in my clothes, comfortable in my shoes.

DSC_2063

So here I was sitting in front of my newly opened, long-awaited, adorable Voxbox, my new goodies spread out on the floor ready to be photographed. I found a pair of heels in a storage bin in the basement--I'm not kidding when I say that they are the only pair I own and I didn't even know I owned them, heels are so uncomfortable--and inserted the gel insoles. These stick right to your shoe when you peel off the backing and they are clearly labeled: Heel Toe Left Right.

Dr. Scholl's For Her High Heel Insoles promise to improve the way you feel in heels. They certainly had their work cut out for them with my hatred of wearing heels. $10.99 is a small price to pay for a product if it changes the way I feel about tall, uncomfortable shoes.

DSC_2442

To test these insoles out I set up a backdrop outside in the 90-degree heat and went to work. A photo shoot in heels. If I could feel comfortable wearing heels while posing in front of the camera, operating the camera, and chasing a naked potty-training 2-year-old around the yard, then I could see myself purchasing a second set of heels--and a second set of Dr. Scholl's insoles.

Dr scholls editsn

For the first few minutes I felt extremely awkward in my shoes. The gel felt hot and squishy as if I was stepping in a mud field, albeit a comfortable mud field. But by the end of the photo shoot I was able to run and hop and jump in my heels and my feet weren't feeling awful.

Desktop57h

So, would I recommend these Dr. Scholl's For Her High Heel Insoles? I actually would. Especially if you're on your feet all day in heels. I wish I had a product like this when I worked for Corporate America and actually had to wear heels for ten hours, five days a week. These insoles probably would've made me feel much better at the end of a long day.

Product review: Goody Hair Ouchless Ribbon Elastics

I signed up with Influenster.com last month and have been having a blast taking surveys and writing product reviews. Shortly after I signed up I qualified to receive my first Voxbox and had been checking our mailbox daily.

Goody Hair Ouchless Ribbon Elastics

My Sunkissed Voxbox arrived on Monday morning, the day I was fitted with a heart monitor. As a stay-at-home-mom, purchasing beauty products is not top on my list of priorities--getting in a daily shower is as fancy as I get most days--so this Sunkissed Voxbox showing up in my mailbox was beyond exciting.

When the kids were napping I threw on a sweatshirt to hide the electrodes from my heart monitor and spent the next few hours trying out my new goodies in front of the camera.  If you'd like to see a video of what was in Influenster's Sunkissed Voxbox, check it out here or stay tuned here on the blog for more reviews.

Goody Hair Ouchless Ribbon Elastics

And speaking of goodies, these are Goody's Ouchless Ribbon Elastics and they are my new favorite hair elastic. These elastics are soft and stretchy and come in a variety of great colors. I was skeptical that they wouldn't stay in my hair because it is so fine, but these awesome new ribbon elastics work just as great as thin elastics.

Goody Hair Ouchless Ribbon Elastics

I love the Goody brand and have used their thin elastics for years. The problem I have with the thin elastics is when I take my hair down--especially before bed--I wear them around my wrist and I wake up with sore elastic marks. I often take off my hair elastic at night and put it on my nightstand and when I brush my teeth in the morning I simply reach for a new elastic. Picture a pile of hair elastics by my bed. My hair elastics end up everywhere around our house and since I buy so many of them, most end up in the trash or in my car or in a bin under the bathroom sink. I rarely wear one hair elastic for more than a day or two. Until now.

On Monday afternoon I removed one purple hair elastic from the package and I have been wearing it since! Eureka! A perfect hair elastic and an empty nightstand.

Goody Hair Ouchless Ribbon Elastics

Aren't these neat?

My 1980's Cyndi Lauper hairdo:

I might've had a little too much fun playing with my new elastics.

Goody hair elastics edited

One major pet peeve of mine is having to Photoshop hair elastics out of photos. This happens more than you'd think. I make a mental note to check my wrists whenever I'm in front of a camera and to check my subjects for hair elastics when I am behind the lens.

There are no more hair elastic photo bombs with Goody's Ouchless Ribbon Elastics! They double as fashionable bracelets!

These ribbon elastics cost $3.99 - $4.99. I'd definitely recommend them.
